IconExpander is an application that will extract icons from an icon pack. It does this by creating empty folders with a custom icon.
You use IconExpander by either dragging the icon pack file onto the IconExpander icon or by double-clicking on the IconExpander icon. If you double-click on IconExpander all the icon packs in the folder will be opened.
After the file is opened, you will be shown a short description of the icon pack. You will also be shown a short description of a shareware application called IconDropper.
When you press the Expand button, an empty folder will be created for each icon in the icon pack and the window will close.
You can give a friend a copy of your icon pack and the IconExpander application. It's also a good idea to include this Read Me file. If you are an icon author and distribute your icons, you can include IconExpander with "Your Pack". We'd appreciate it if you included the URL file for visiting the Iconfactory.
IconDropper is an application that can use the icon pack without creating all the empty folders on your hard drive. This will save you lots of disk space. On a 1 GB hard drive, 100 icons pasted onto folders use about 1.6 MB of disk space (even though the Finder says it's zero K). An icon pack with 100 icons uses about 50K of disk space. If you would like more information about IconDropper, please read the press release below.
The following press release describes the IconDropper software in more detail:

Iconfactory Releases Shareware -- IconDropper
The Iconfactory is proud to bring you our first piece of quality shareware to help make customizing your Mac a breeze. The IconDropper suite of tools by Craig Hockenberry, allows users to set icons through the use of drag-and-drop technology from custom designed icon "packs". Managing custom icons for the Mac has never been this easy, or this fun. IconDropper and its companion program IconPacker give iconoholics tools to organize and stylize their collections to their liking.
IconPacker organizes all of your icon files laying around on your hard drive into sets that you name and design. Save disk space by eliminating hundreds of custom folder icons and have fun while doing it! IconPacker even lets the user design and embed a custom banner and background color into the packs when saved. Packs can then be e-mailed to friends or distributed on the Internet.
The foreman encourages you to visit the Iconfactory today <http://www.iconfactory.com> and try out this exciting new piece of software.
IconExpander can be distributed freely as long as this Read Me file is included. There is no registration or fee.
